I have always viewed readers talking of not being able to put a book down as over-exaggeration. However this work by Hansen is the first I’ve ever come across that truly meets such criteria. While initially a crime story, it is also a tale that accurately expresses the character of a typical slice of the Australian outback and its inhabitants. There is enough enjoyable humour to enhance the story without turning it into a comedy, and the criminal element is plausible without being stereotypically arch-evil. The plot may be a little improbable - though no more so than in any work of fiction – yet it is not unbelievable. Australians – country people in particular – will identify with the characters and the location descriptions while others will be given a good insight into Australian appeal.I have come across similar works from time to time, but they seem to be very few and far between. This one tops the list; an entertaining read from start to finish that I would recommend to anyone.
