Manhasset music stands are by far my favorite kind. Assembly is simple, and there's not a lot to go wrong. Do make sure to cinch the bottom nut really tight to keep the stand from wobbling (I suggest just keeping dedicated wrench handy, as they lose their tightness over time and with heavy use).When these get old enough (which is normally measured in decades), the spring mechanism tends to break down, and the stand will slowly sink if you put a heavy book on it (I've also seen some that slowly rise!). The trick to get some more life out of it is to extend all the way out and put a little bend in the silver pole. This adds enough friction to keep it in place (granted, it will never raise or lower anywhere near as nicely again).These things are built to last. I purchased them for our Choir because the stands we had were falling apart and falling over. The church did buy some, but the ones they bought were cheaper and poorer quality. You need some tools to put it together. The base needs to be tighten with a wrench and the stand part that goes in the par needs a couple of wretches to tighten it. That's the only thing.They are heavy! And comes in pieces that you need to put together. The pole is lubricate so that you have to be careful how you grab it or you get the lubricate on your hands. When given the choice between these stands, the old ones there, and the new ones the church bought, the Choir members picked these. They support the weight of the music.I love Manhasset stands, and this was a good deal on a box of six. They were shipped promptly and came with all of the proper pieces. Where the feet attaches to the shaft with a bolt, there is some Lock-tite applied to the bolt threads, however, there is not enough. I assembled these to be used at a concert and they all came loose. Unfortunately, one of them fell apart completely at a concert and the bottom bolt was lost. I had to go to a hardware store to find one to take its place. I finally took them all apart and applied a LOT more Lock-tite to the threads, and put them back together. They've been fine since then. Lesson learned -- apply more Lock-tite yourself, when you assemble these!Our professional symphony orchestra uses these Manhasset stands - sturdy and reliable. Very easy to assemble and adjust. Buying individually might save a couple of dollars, but having 6 stands in one box instead of 6 separate boxes is so much easier to handle - not to mention uses fewer trees. Box is light enough for a 65-year old female to lift and maneuver.I don't know what could make these better. Maybe a built-in stand light? Hahaha. Easy to assemble. Easy to use. Easy to store on the short Manhasset cart. I think I used this brand stand in high school. Wow.These were a great addition to our musical program. Not only did they serve our purpose but they were very easy to assemble and are quite durable. No complaintsPurchased 12 as a gift to a local music group for kids. Great value when purchased by the dozen. Heavy Duty quality stand.Once you've used a Manhasset, you won't ever want anything else to hold your music. These stands are attractive, durable, and don't weigh a ton like some of the other cheap junk we recently replaced on our youth band stage. The one handed operation is a really nice feature as well. There's a reason these are the standard for school bands and orchestras...they are simply the best.When you can find these stands in packs like this they are well worth picking up. It feels like Manhasset has thinned the metal down a bit on the stand part over the years, but still a great workhorse.New, plastic connector - not sure of its durability.
